Speaker Block #3

DENNIS MORTENSEN

CEO/Founder, x.ai

Dennis is the CEO and Founder of x.ai. He’s a pioneer and expert in leveraging Data and a serial entrepreneur who has successfully delivered a number of company exits on that theme. Dennis’s long term vision of killing the inbox triggered the formation of x.ai and the creation of an artificial intelligence personal assistant to schedule meetings. He’s an accredited Associate Analytics Instructor at the University of British Columbia, the Author of Data Driven Insights from Wiley and a frequent speaker on the subject of AI, intelligent agents, and the future of work. A native of Denmark, Mortensen currently calls New York City his home.

In this talk, x.ai CEO and Founder, Dennis Mortensen, will discuss some of the important factors and decisions that need to be made in building an AI autonomous agent. As x.ai developed its AI assistants—Amy & Andrew—who take over meeting scheduling entirely, they encountered quite a few unexpected challenges.

This talk will cover the key questions and challenges to consider if you’re involved in designing artificially intelligent agents, based on those faced by x.ai in building their AI assistants (more details below).

ABSTRACT #1:

Dr. Anasse Bari (NYU) will talk about Mining Alternative Data Sources to Seek Alpha for Making Financial Decisions. This talk will not be highly technical, but will include algorithms + high-level highlights of the technology. Dr. Bari will highlight use cases where alternative datasets have been mined using machine learning algorithms and how they help in understanding movements in the stock market. Dr. Bari along and his graduate student and former GE software engineer Aniruddh Khera will close by highlighting their research team project - using news articles and micro-blogs to understand movements of financial markets.

ABSTRACT #2

Mutisya Ndunda (Founder/CEO, Alpha Vertex) will speak about using machine learning techniques to forecast time series in order to build investment strategies. Time series are an essential part of financial analysis and as the volume, velocity and complexity of financial data increases. Machine learning techniques hold great promise for time series analysis and offers a way to separate the signal from the noise, even when the noise can seem overwhelming. During his presentation, Mutisya will go through an accessible, non-trivial example of machine learning with financial time series.
